I love the desert in spring, which makes a quick visit to family in Arizona a double pleasure. I have many happy memories of spring wildflowers. This one, on a purple beavertail cactus, greeted me at the Phoenix airport. I had to post it since I consider cactus blossoms a special treat.

Skunk cabbage
Skunk cabbage (symplocarpus foetidus) is a humble plant and I understand it can be rather smelly. But I discovered a patch of skunk cabbage about a week ago and found it pretty. It likes to grow in boggy areas and I came close to filling my shoes with mud, so I didn’t get terribly close.
