After a rain, I see these all over the street and trails. Have to be careful not to walk or drive over them. Do you call these newts or salamanders?

I call them “cute” as long as they don’t stay out from under my feet and eat bad bugs that chew on my plants.
I think what it is is a rough skinned newt. http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Taricha/T_granulosa.shtml
They look like they were made with a jello mold!

I believe it’s the common republican newt. http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Gingricha.shtml
Hi Shannon…lovely color. I don’t call them either salamanders or newts. I call ’em lizards. We have little green ones that change color…
I had no idea these things were so common in your area. I’ve only ever seen one salamander in my life, and no newts. Crazy!
