We have company right now and we were driving them around last night showing them Sequim and this was our second stop and I took this picture (down at Dungeness Spit Rec Area)…and then my camera ( Sony Cybershot ) broke. The shutter button popped off. My husband and I both have the same camera and the exact thing happened to him on his camera so I’m thinking it’s a defect with the Sony Cybershot camera series. I’ll use his until he fixes mine. Driving around the rest of the tour and seeing photo ops and having no camera was hard for me! We saw two herons together in a pretty setting and my auto response was to reach for my camera and I didn’t have one. The weather was making some cool cloud patterns and the water was blowing around. At least I have back up cameras so I’m not without while mine gets fixed.

You should tell Sony about it. Good that you have a back up camera.
Steffe…when it happened to the first camera I called Sony and they wanted $180 for repair. So I Googled it and found that it is a very common problem with this series of camera to the point people were asking for recall status, but Sony didn’t go for that. So I just ordered the part for less than $30 and my husband repaired it himself. That’s what I’ll do for this one too.
Good you have a handy husband also! Mine can fix most things, I am spoiled! Sorry about the camera breaking…I love my little Canon but it lacked the good zoom feature so (after 5 years) we got another Canon. I am glad to have 2 good cameras now.
Bad news! It might be worth another call to Sony, or a firm letter. They really should do better than they’ve done!
I’ve found my cell phone camera has come in handy many times when I did not have my digital camera – especially for wide angle shots. I am going to experiment with my digital movie camera – which I seldom use. It has a great zoom and takes digital photos.
But, it my shutter button popped off any other them – I’d be upset. Sony should know better.
I love the angle of this pic – it gives the effect of the clouds moving across the photo. Bummer about your camera 🙁
