At our quilt show, we have a “quilt turning” where heritage quilts are shown and described to an appreciative audience. As the proud caretaker of this “Sunshine and Shadows” variation on a Mariner’s Compass, it was a delight to see Great Grandma Blakely’s quilt displayed. Notice the white gloves the ladies are wearing? This is done to protect the fabrics of the older quilts from the natural oils in our skin.

What a treasure. I can’t begin to imagine all the hours it took to make such a spectacular quilt.
The amount of hours, also reflects the amount of love she put into the quilt.
