Views of Sequim, the Olympic Peninsula. . .and beyond
On our field trip mentioned in yesterday’s post, the students were given clipboards to hold their maps and page for notes….Baby Girl and My Big Boy wanted one too. This little fountain is located in front of City Hall. I practically had to drag BG away…it seemed to mesmorize her.

Sequim, like many other small towns, is always looking for ways to get the townfolk downtown and in to the shops. On the First Friday of each month, an “art walk” is held through out the downtown area with different venues open to the public.
One of the many hats I wear is teaching English as a Second Language class for the local college. This turned out to be the perfect field trip. Some of the standards for ESL are: the ability to read directions, listen to and comprehend directions, and give oral directions. We downloaded the map and away we went! Students had to give and follow directions to the different venues using the map. (Thumbnail One) Once there, they had to engage someone in conversation and find something of note to write about later. The main photo is of two students viewing the art at theWildlight Gallery.
We started off at The Buzz (Thumbnail Two) and then fanned out in small groups all over town.

The strawberry season will soon be over and it will be time for raspberries. (Mine are coming on strong!) These folks are at Cameron U-Pick strawberries off Woodcock Road, between Kitchen Dick and Cay Roads. They are worth the effort!

Overlooking the Sequim Valley Prarie is a lovely old cememtery. I enjoy stopping by when the light is just right in the evening and looking at the old stones. This cemetery is off Cay Road. In the thumbnail you can see the foot hills of the Olympic Mountains to the south and flat farm land, irrigated by water from the Dungeness River.
At the corner of 5th and Washington, you will find an old grain elevator sprouting from the middle of a great Mexican Restaurant, El Cazador. Click on the links to learn more of Sequim’s agricultural past.
P.S. Besides having killer maragaritas, the food and service are also excellent.
Need a great lunch with a little atmosphere? Jean’s is the place! On North Second Ave, between Washington and Bell, Jean’s is located in the historic St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. I believe it was built in 1896. This is not the original location of the church.
Try the “honey bun”…or the “lemon lush”. You won’t be disapointed.
